Paul had no political program. The cross put an end to man in the flesh. It assessed the natural man and declared him bankrupt. Bankrupt politically, morally, spiritually, totally. Instead of being a citizen of the world he became a corpse in it: “I am crucified with Christ.” As far as the world is concerned the church of God is a cemetery full of nothing but dead men, and men with their names on tombstones do not run for political nominations.

God’s Building

For God’s fellow workers are we. God’s farm, God’s building, are you (I Corinthians 3:9).

It is inspiring to think of God, the Infinite Artisan, at work in the construction of a world. What matchless provision! What glorious comprehension of details! What splendid persistency! What endless patience! The mind is enlarged as it seeks to follow the vast undertaking.

But what if we apply all this to the making of our little human lives? Can the Creator of a universe concern Himself with our small affairs, the trivialities of our petty problems, the trifling of our hopes and fears? Yes, He can and does. Nothing is a trifle to Him, least of all anything human; for He has formed us for Himself. We are His temple. He has built us for His home.
